Glasses Fix Frame Guide

Your Guide to Frames, Re-Lensing & Safety Eyewear

One of our core services is helping customers keep frames they already own. This guide explains the frame types we commonly work with and adds specialist information about Eyres by Shamir prescription safety eyewear.

Can Your Existing Frame Be Re-Lensed?

Often, yes. 4 Eyes Optical currently accepts a wide range of frame styles for replacement lenses, and Glasses Fix can assess your frame in person.

Full-Rim Metal Frames

A very common frame type and often suitable for replacement lenses, subject to the frame being structurally sound.

Full-Rim Plastic Frames

Many plastic frames can be re-lensed. We check for brittleness, cracking, distortion and general condition before proceeding.

Semi-Rimless Frames

These frames use a retaining cord or similar system and need lenses prepared specifically for that design.

Rimless Frames

Rimless glasses require accurate drilling and mounting, so frame condition and lens material selection are especially important.

Wrap & Specialty Frames

Wrap, Oakley-style and other specialty frames can require different lens curves, fitting methods and prescription considerations.

Cycle / Frame Inserts

Prescription inserts can also be fitted with replacement lenses where the insert and prescription are suitable.

Older or favourite frames:
Age alone does not automatically rule a frame out, but older materials can become brittle or fatigued. Bring the actual frame in so we can assess whether it is sensible to re-lens or repair.

Repairs, Adjustments & Lens Transfers

Repairs & Adjustments

Bring in loose, crooked, uncomfortable or damaged glasses for assessment. What can be repaired depends on the frame material, component and extent of the damage.

Lens Transfers

In some cases existing lenses may be transferable to another frame, but this depends heavily on lens shape, size, prescription positioning and the destination frame.

Trusted Safety Eyewear Suppliers
4 Eyes Optical and Glasses Fix proudly use safety frames and lenses supplied by both Shamir Australia and RX Safety Australia for our trusted prescription safety glasses. This gives our customers access to specialist safety-eyewear solutions from established Australian suppliers, with frame and lens options selected to suit the prescription, workplace requirements and intended use.

Prescription Safety Frames — Eyres by Shamir Australia

Safety eyewear is different from ordinary glasses. The frame and lenses work together as a certified protective system, so the complete pair must be selected and manufactured appropriately.

Eyres Safety Frames

Eyres by Shamir is an Australian safety-eyewear brand with more than three decades of experience. The range includes prescription and non-prescription safety eyewear designed for demanding work environments.

Certified Prescription Safety Eyewear

Eyres states that its prescription safety spectacles carry markings showing compliance with applicable safety standards, including AS/NZS 1337.6 for prescription safety eyewear in Australia and New Zealand.

Safety Frame Materials

Eyres uses advanced frame materials such as TR90/TR90+, polycarbonate and thermorubber, with designs that may include wraparound protection, soft-grip components and adjustable temples.

Prescription Lens Materials

Eyres lists Shamir Polycarbonate, Trivex and selected 1.67 lens solutions among its prescription safety lens materials, depending on the frame, prescription and required design.

Important safety note:
Eyres advises that prescription safety glasses are a certified safety appliance. If a certified pair sustains a significant impact or requires a prescription-lens replacement, the complete safety pair may need to be remade so certification is maintained. Do not modify certified safety frames or lenses outside the manufacturer’s approved process.
